Test and certification of non-electrical equipment considering to Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX)

As Notified Body no. 0158 DEKRA tests and certifies non-electrical equipment of Group I (mining) and Group II (industrial) considering to Directive 2014/34/EU. We accompany the manufacturer or supplier during the whole process, from choosing the best process for assessing conformity to issuing the pertinent EC declaration of conformity.

Below you can find a list of typical non-electrical products which are one major focus of our testing and certifying activities:

  • Pumps
  • Screw conveyors
  • Rotary feeders
  • Conveyor plants
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Pneumatic systems
  • Valves
  • Couplings
  • Brakes
  • Lifting devices
  • Mills
  • Blenders
  • Stirring units
  • Compactors

Depending on the hazardous level – as defined by the classification of different zones – of the area in which the equipment shall be used, the modules mentioned in the table below have to be carried out by the manufacturer as part of the conformity assessment process. Those modules highlighted as yellow have to be performed in collaboration with a notified body. Essentially, these are the EC-type examination for equipment groups 1 and M1 or the EC individual examination together with the audit of the quality assurance system implemented by the manufacturer (QA system).

The following services complement our range of services as a Notified Body around the ATEX Directive

  • Initial talks to inform ATEX newcomers on Directive 2014/34/EU
  • Setting up a CE road map which considers both Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU
  • Expert opinions on ‘simple’ products and their safe use
  • Expert opinions and type examinations of non-electrical equipment of categories 2 and 3
  • Inspecting technical documents for plausibility and completeness according to Annex VIII
  • Analysing ignition hazards
    - Temperature measurements (by means of infrared photography)
    - Examining and testing the electrostatic properties of equipment and materials
    - Experimental and numeric simulation and modelling
  • Training courses and in-house seminars for manufacturers
